Artopia

An active endeavour by the art unit that focuses on generating livelihood opportunities for neurodiverse artists especially the non-verbal, high support trainees with by creating & selling art work, garden crafts and festive creations

SFT Artopia is an active endeavour by the Art unit of Shaurya Foundation Trust wherein the neurodiverse artists create different kinds of art. Art has proven to be an important tool in building fine motor and problem solving skills.

It enhances communication, self expression and promotes self-esteem. It motivates them to succeed and offers them an opportunity forself expression. It is a great tool to communicate for people who find it hard to express their thoughts and feelings verbally. Art offers a creative and enjoyable way to communicate beyond barriers, without worries of being judged as there is no such thing asfailingwhen you create art. This process givesthem a sense of accomplishment and acts as a dopamine hit
The process starts with structured introduction to strokes, colours, mediums and working with objects like diyas, pots, lanterns etc. This allows a safe environment as there is no right or wrong and there are clear targets to ‘finish’. Working with boundaries and following a process in making art work - few artists work have been found to be very conducive for this - Piet Mondrian;Kandinsky; Alma to name of few.
